It ain't no Kitchen Aid...

I am the same as most people in that if you asked them which type of kitchen mixer they would want they would answer...Kitchen Aid.
Not necessarily in this colour.

But alas i have neither the funds, or the space really, Kitchen Aids retailing at about $800.
So i got this little beauty for $18!!!

It has a removable top, so it can be used as a handheld mixer and is quiet compact in size.
I got it from Woolworth's at Chadstone (i think it was the last one tho)

It ain't no Kitchen Aid...but it will do the job :)

P.S. Did i mention it comes with dough hooks as well as beaters!

Provincial

Every year for my niece's & nephew's birthday i give them a voucher.
The voucher consists of $20 spending money, shopping, lunch & a movie with Aunty Hayley.
They love that they get to spend the day with me, and that they can do it by themselves (as they are always with their siblings).
Today i took my 10 year old nephew Michael, who so kindly told me that i could look in shops too as the day wasn't all about him it was about spending time together. Awwww.

So after all his shopping, lunch and the movie i took him with me into one of my favorite stores... Provincial. Which i just happen to have a $100 gift voucher for.

After much umming & aaring on my part, Michael told me i should buy the plates, and so i listened.
Unfortunately for me they were half price last week and this week they are back to full price :(

Seeing as during our time in the shop i had dropped something and almost broken something else, Michael insisted on caring the 6 heavy plates himself, all the way back the car, and he did a great job.
Look here they are safe & sound at home...

I also picked up this...
Which tells you how much spaghetti to make depending on how many people you have just by sticking the spaghetti through the appropriate holes.

Now the decision is where to put my pretty plates!

p.s. i was not paid by Provincial to talk about them, i just like their store.

Mauritius

The last of my family that came over from England for the wedding have just left and it was so very sad to see them go.
I am so astounded and amazed that they wanted to come all this way, it just wouldn't have been the same without them.

Now we are looking to the future.
Every couple of years or so my family (Mum's side) tries to all get together in some lovely location to relax and be together (we are in the UK, US, & Australia) and this year we have our eyes set on Mauritius. Mauritius is about 12-13 hours from both the UK and Australia, and has two Club Med resorts. We like to stay at Club Med's when we all get together as everything is inclusive, the meals, the drinks, the pool, rooms etc, so it makes get a group of nearly 20 of us together and feeding us all a lot easier.
Here is the brood at the last Club Med Holiday in Phuket, Thailand in 2008. Since then there has been three added members, baby Oscar, his mum Ceri and of course Lewis.

And so the saving begins, hopefully Lewis and i can get the money together to join the rest of the family at Christmas. (Fingers crossed Lewis can get the time off work too!)

Do you get it?

With some of the decoration in our house some people either "Get it" (ie: love it, understand it) or they "Don't get it" (ie: why is that like that, i don't understand why thats there)
And the frames in our lounge room are definitely one of those things people either love or hate.

So what do you think...

P.S. Some day i want to paint all the frames white and display them on a lovely coloured wall.

Laundry Day

Well laundry days, as i seem to forever be doing laundry, and if you are like me and love your dryer here is a tip to make the time go faster and reduce your electricity bill a little.

In with each load of washing pop in a tennis ball and a dry tea towel.
The tennis ball helps air rate & separate the clothes and the dry tea towel soaks up some of the moisture.
It pretty much cut my dryers drying time in half which means that once my washing machine has finished running, the stuff in the dryer is ready to come out so the next load of wet clothes can go in!

Just remember to take the tennis ball & tea towel out of your nice dry clothes and pop them back into the dryer for next time.

Happy clothes washing! (oxymoron?)

Meet Evan

I would like to introduce you to another member of our household.
His name is Evan...
Evan was being thrown out at Lewis' work and we couldn't resist bringing him home.

Yes he looks like your ordinary everyday mannequin, but at night...

He lights up!

Lewis actually pulled apart one of my lamps to achieve his but its okay, i like my Evan lamp more.
He basically shoved the lamp part inside Evan's chest and put the lamp shade on as a head.

As well as providing some subtle mood lighting, he also holds my bags and accessories that get dumped in the lounge room.

Now when you visit our house, the tour is not complete without an introduction to our white plastic friend.

A Parliament of Owls

Please stand to welcome the newest member of the parliament.
I found this little friend at a Fire Brigade garage sale just outside of Ocean Grove last month.
As he was bundled in with some other stuff i don't really know how much he cost me but i think i paid about $1.00 for him.
He is the perfect example of something that i loved that wasn't quite the right colour.
You see, he doesn't really match his friends.

So out came the white spray paint!
Here is Lewis doing the first coat for me.
Here he is after the 1st coat.

And here he is after his second coat. Well i'm not the best spray painter so i think he will need a bit of a sanding to get rid of the drips and one more coat. But he does fit in alot better with his mates now.
I'll post you some day time pictures after i've completely finished him. But with just a lick of paint he goes from a $1.00 piece of junk to something you could easily pay $20 for in the shops.
Goodnight my owl friends, or maybe good morning to you.

Fabulous 21

Last night was our housemate Tara's 21st birthday party
That's Tara
The party was held in our backyard with the help of Tara's parents and catering. It was lovely for me to finally put faces to names i had heard in many a story from Tara. The catered food consisted of salads, rolls and meat from the spit which completely satisfied the masses and we will have left overs of the meat for days (Lewis is not complaining). And for Tara & I, the vegetarians, her mum made us spinach & ricotta and also pumpkin pastries, with her homemade pastry. They were amazing and well lets just say there is none left.

The night had some lovely heartfelt speeches from friends throughout the years, which served to confirm her status at Queen of the Gays, or as James put it her 'Fag Hagetry'.
Tara & I borrowed each other clothes for the evening and lets just say i don't think she's getting her dress back anytime soon because i love it.

Tara's little cousin Christina (pictured below) left me feeling very clucky (meaning: i want one!) with her cute smiles and friendly personality. There was also 2 lovely cakes made by Tara's mum (pictured below) and her cousin Tanya made some cute as cupcakes.

The night wrapped up pretty late with me going to bed at 3.30am and the last of the party/guests staying over, went to bed about 6am.

It was a wonderful night and i hope Tara enjoyed it as much as i did.

Bridal Shower

On the Saturday before our wedding i was thrown a wonderful "Surprise"Bridal Shower.
I say surprise because i knew when it was on, and i was casually invited to lunch by my mum & godmother, but apart from that i knew none of the particulars, which is just as i like it.

So after being taken to Cold Rock ice creamery, Mum said she just had to pop into Lewis' parents house, well i knew this must be it, especially when i recognized all the cars out the front.

I was greeted by my beautiful bridesmaids who dressed me in a headband veil and bride sash.

The party with lovingly hosted by Lewis' mother Maggie in their gorgeous East Malvern home.
The girls even organized some games, such a 'how well do you know the bride' quiz, wedding word scramble and a contest to dress three of the guests in toilet paper as brides, which was very funny.

It was a lovely day, and that evening me and some of the girls went out for dinner at Taco Bill (my favorite) had half price fish bowl margaritas and they wouldn't even let me pay! the night was topped off with drinks in my backyard.

It was absolutely what i wanted when it comes to a bridal shower/hens night, i didn't want clubbing (i get too tired), i didn't want strippers. So i got a wonderfully relaxed and fun afternoon/evening with the girls, exactly what i needed a week out from the wedding!

Thanks again to everyone who made it so wonderful.

Triple J Hottest 100 Party 2011

On the 26th January every year it is Australia Day and this year we decided instead of having an Australia Day party we would have a Triple J Hottest 100 Party.
For those who don't know, Tripple J is a radio station here, kind of alternative, indie, and every year on Australia Day they count down the top 100 songs of the year as voted by the public.
Wonderful Triple J provided some fun internet downloads for the day such as Bingo and little block head characters to cut out and make.
Overall it was a great day of sitting out the back, eating, drinking and chilling with friends, i even managed to get a whole lot of washing done as we were sitting outside the laundry room so every 45mins or so i would just get up and change my washing over :)
